A bridgeworker named Gary McDermott took the photograph of the glowing red object seen here, after stopping his car to photograph a low-flying helicopter in Plymouth.
The disc-shaped ufo flashed across the sky for a brief moment before it disappeared into the night at 9pm on Sunday.
McDermott, who was working night shifts on the city’s famous Royal Albert Bridge, said:
I just couldn’t believe what I had just seen.
It must have been a UFO – and I cannot believe I am saying that because I don’t believe in them usually. I am always skeptical.
But this was definitely not a normal aircraft. It was red, the shape they say UFO aircraft is, and had two bright lights coming out of it.

Went out for a cigarette tonight (14/02/2012) at about 6.30pm in Chudleigh, South Devon and saw a red/orange glow in the sky speeding in from about 10 miles over the moors, coming from a south/westerly direction. It seemed to slow in pace about 3 miles away and gradually headed off (pulsating) at a leasurely pace towards Newton Abbot before disapearing into the cloud base. Never seen anything like this before and can’t think of a logical explanation. Certainly was not a plane of helicopter as the incomming speed was quite tremendous
